An accountability mechanism beyond the Summit

The Commitment Portal is not just a record of commitments made at the Global Summit but an ongoing accountability mechanism for their implementation. As set out in the Global Compact for Eye Health (the Global Compact), the Commitment Portal provides the architecture for visibility, transparency and tracking of commitments, helping to maintain momentum and support action towards the 1 Billion Pledge.

Following the Global Summit, commitment makers will be able to report progress against their commitments through the Portal. Over time, this will provide a transparent picture of what has been delivered, what resources have been mobilized, where progress is being made and where further action is needed.

For governments, the accountability approach builds on existing reporting processes wherever possible, avoiding unnecessary duplication. The Global Compact supports a “Report Once, Count Twice” approach, linking relevant reporting through mechanisms such as Voluntary National Reviews and reporting against the global eye health targets with the Commitment Portal.
